A Certified Mistake

For the past few days ive been deploying Direct Access 2012. This awesome update to DA in Server 2012 will help me provide a secure VPN-less connection for my field laptops.

However, a small mis-click when selecting the certificate to use with Step 2 and the Computer Certification Authority, left my DA console telling me that it had a 'Configuration Load Error'.

A little searching revealed the easiest way to recovery was to reset the certificate using Powershell, and was documented by this blog entry.

For the lazy, steps are detailed below. Open PowerShell and start typing:

Get the thumbprint of a valid certificate by using the command
Get-ChildItem Cert:\LocalMachine\Root
Set the new thumbprint into a variable
$certificate = (Get-ChildItem Cert:\LocalMachine\Root\<PASTE CERTIFICATE THUMBPRINT HERE>)
Update the Direct Access settings with the new certificate.
Set-DAServer -IPsecRootCertificate $certificate
