SQL Studio 2008 & Creating an instance of the COM component with CLSID Error

In the process of upgrading to SQL Server 2008 R2, I also had to update my SQL 2008 R2 Studio Manager software.

(Note there is a SQL 2008 Studio Manager and a SQL 2008 R2 Studio Manager - make sure you get the right one!)

While updating my Agents and some automated scripting jobs, I got a rather annoying error - "Creating an instance of the COM component with CLSID <some GUID codes>" and an error of C001F011.

"Creating an instance of the COM component with CLSID {AA40D1D6-CAEF-4A56-B9BB-D0D3DC976BA2} from the IClassFactory failed due to the following error: c001f011. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ManagedDTS)"

A little searching revealed this post which worked for me.

Basically it requires re-registration of the dts.dll file using the REGSVR32.EXE command.

It turns out that the unregistered COM in dts.dll located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\DTS\binn. I ran the following from the command line:

REGSVR32.EXE dts.dll

in the aforementioned directory. source http://geekswithblogs.net/NutAndBolts/archive/2008/06/06/sql_server_2005_even...

Big thanks to WolfgangPurrer (or who ever you really are.)
